There was a lot to be excited about in the Commanders week 1 statement win against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
To name a few:
Curtis Samuel was the primary option in the offense, had well over 10 combined touches and came out unscathed
Antonio Gibson was reborn as the new do it all offensive weapon that a lot of folks had hoped he'd be when we drafted him
The Commanders defense found a way to get Jacksonville off the field on 3rd downs which was everyone's #1 defensive concern
Wentz looked like a true QB1 with 4 TD throws in the game.
However, one thing stands above all of that for me this week. That thing is:
The emergency of Derrick Forrest Jr. #22 brought the thunder to a Jax RB completely flattening him but he also made plays in the passing game with several pass break ups and a late game sealing pick. Could Forrest be the missing piece to our secondary with Curl? Tough to say right now but i'm
very encouraged.
